STEVE SHANK - NINE.ONE.EIGHT

THE STORY THUS FAR...
I started out life drawing everything I saw with an old-fashioned pencil and paper. Even through high school, my focus was less on the academic basics, more so on drawing or painting everything I could. Thus, I took that drive south from Tulsa to attend the Art Institute in Dallas, Texas. A few years after getting my degree, I found employment at a prepress house, wherein a Macintosh and a mouse became my weapon of choice. My first graphic design love was logos, but since you can't seem to draw out (pun totally intended) a living doing just logos, I figured I'd best try to further myself and joined up with an ad agency. I've been in agencies ever since, minus a four-year stint in the creative department at an aftermarket motorsports company. Those four years were some of the most enjoyable for me, as the position allowed for some seriously creative freedom, and I've tried to bring all of that fun and efficiency    into my work ever since, wherever I go.
918 Design Works started out in 2000 as Slipstream Graphics, an experiment in myself and how far I actually wanted to go in graphic design and brand advertising. As you can clearly see, it's still work in progress, though if it ever ceases to be a work in progress, then I am either making sandwiches in a deli somewhere or dead.
I have a myriad of hobbies, including (but not limited to) coaching soccer, photography, model-building, cycling and driving. I still dabble in logo design periodically.
This is where I shall endeavor to share my adventures - past, present and future - with you. Hit the button below to continue.
Enjoy!
